DSM-IV criteria

 Schizophrenia is a thought disorder that may lead to a profound disturbance in reality-testing (e.g., delusions) or perceptual disturbances (such as hallucinations).

There are several types of schizophrenia, eg:

- paranoid,

- disorganized (aka hebephrenic);

- undifferentiated,

Clinical course is widely variable.
